Pierce Widera is a Melbourne-based design duo claiming accolades from IDEA awards and Australian Interior Design Awards. Our client, Caine Real Estate, is a customer-centric agency with authenticity at the heart of their service. And so, the proposed design aimed to provide a professional office fitout to elevate the customer experience across its 100 square meterage – evident in the open-plan layout and immaculate finishes throughout the space. With this in mind, executing such a design required thoughtful planning and in-depth building knowledge.

The curvature of the internal walls and flawless finishes were fundamental to the look and feel of the space, yet constructing this into the office fitout was no simple task. Therefore, our joinery needed to be built with precision and careful technique - so how did we do it? The process involved the use of bendable plywood to achieve the initial curved frame against the wall, which was then followed by the installation of curved wood milled down to fit perfectly into the grooves.

Given the limitations posed by a global pandemic, meticulous planning was crucial to the successful delivery of this office fitout project. Accounting for reduced staff and supply chain issues, our forward-thinking projects team needed to act fast and adapt their project schedules. By doing so, they were able to accommodate for longer lead times across materials and joinery. Likewise, our existing contractor relationships and subsequent loyalty gave us a front foot in getting this office fitout completed and handed over in a timely manner.

When building office fitouts into shared tenancies, it's important to consider how the design can impact its surrounding tenants. In this instance, further challenges arose when considering the inclusion of mechanical systems into the office fitout design. Our projects team needed to find a place for air condensers without disrupting the use and function of communal areas. This meant utilising redundant space and placing the air condensers in a place that was out of sight and did not impede on the flow of the tenancy.
