Kidman Resources
A New York loft-style office fitout was the perfect choice for Kidman Resources, a Melbourne-based mining company located within BHP House – once the tallest steel-framed building of its time in Australia, and the tallest fitout Canopy has worked on to date!
Our inspiration for Kidman centred on complementing the new-look BHP building by visually tying the company back to one of Melbourne’s most iconic mining buildings.
Recently BHP House went through an extensive renovation to bring the building back to life. Now in immaculate condition with new lobbies, end-of-trip facilities and service upgrades, the Kidman team really needed a space to call their own. Enter Canopy Fitouts.
Framing Melbourne Skyline
We used black partitions to frame the Melbourne skyline, keeping as much natural light in the space to give the feeling of openness and airiness. The masculine steel frames of the building were incorporated into the meeting room, paired with the ceiling cladded timber. The aim here was to embrace the juxtaposition of cold steel and the warmth of timber. We also added an operable wall complete with a whiteboard to create separation between the areas to allow for versatility.
Important Features for a Fitout
Textures were also an important feature of this fitout. Being very classic in colour with white, black and timber tones, we were able to play around with different textures such as timber panelling, gloss touches and stone finishes
