Tucked inside the historic Block Arcade is where you’ll find Lafayette, our little slice of Paris in Melbourne.
A sophisticated café serving all-day brunch, it’s a destination where guests can trade the city buzz in for something more intimate. With an ethos grounded in French sophistication and culinary excellence, Lafayette invites guests to savour luxury moments in every sip, fork, and spoonful.
As café fitout experts, we were tasked with bringing this energy to life, using all the right elements to make this feel as if it were uprooted from the Champs-Élysées. Keep scrolling to see how we did it.
Café by Day, Wine Bar by Night
When it came time to craft Lafayette’s atmosphere, designing for versatility was key.
After sunset, Lafayette transforms into an intimate wine cellar. The space had to seamlessly shift from a bright, inviting café in the daytime to something more romantic in the evening. Achieving this balance required sophisticated design choices that conveyed both warmth and luxury.
We landed on a refined colour palette of soft blues and brass accents to start. These elements were elevated by marble flooring, giving the entire fitout a timeless, elegant touch.

Elevated Materials and Finishes
The space is punctuated by bistro-style seating with plush velvet chairs and brass detailing, giving a nod to traditional French café culture. Indoor seating hosts curved banquettes with high backrests and matching blue velvet upholstery. This sound-absorbing material allows private conversations to flow freely, even on busier nights.
Central to the entire fitout is an opulent, stately chandelier. Vintage-style wall lights further brighten up the space, fully adjustable to suit a more romantic ambiance as the sun falls.
