SIA Medical, founded by Dr. Martin Sia in 1993, has long served Melbourne's northwest, treating a diverse patient base from families to young professionals and Melburnians from all walks of life. For their new clinic in Mulgrave, they sought to create a dental fitout that reflected their commitment to patient comfort and professionalism. With our specialised experience across medical and healthcare fitouts, we were the perfect fit to bring their vision to life.
Design Approach: Creating a Calm and Efficient Space
Our build process began with a detailed consultation to fully understand SIA Dental’s vision. Given that a doctor’s visit could be a stressful experience for some, SIA wanted a design that would evoke feelings of calm and serenity throughout the entire clinic. Our primary goal would be to enhance the patient experience through design while also optimising staff workflow.
Using a refined palette of greys and natural textures, we incorporated premium materials chosen for their durability and aesthetic appeal. Sound-absorbing elements were integrated throughout to minimise noise and enhance the peaceful atmosphere. Through these intentional design choices, this sense of calm is carried from the waiting room and into the treatment areas.
Lighting Design: Balancing Warmth and Functionality
To complement the tranquil design, we developed a lighting layout that balances warmth and functionality. Soft, ambient lighting welcomes patients upon arrival, while strategically placed task lighting supports the clinical needs of treatment areas. We also maximise the use of natural light, bringing a refreshing, energising feel to the space.
