Victorian Pride Centre

An Iconic Space

After the grand unveiling of the iconic Victorian Pride Centre, it was time for the community hub to commence the next stage of development.  The existing space was the first purpose-built space to support LGBTQI+ communities and boasts a timber-cladded elliptical atrium through the centre of the building.

Our involvement in this development included designing and constructing three separate hospitality fitouts which could compliment the grandiose of the existing space, as well as support the ongoing activities at Victorian Pride Centre.

Setting the Tone

When modifying individual spaces within a larger property, choosing the right materials is critical. It’s a delicate balance of creating spaces that have a life of their own, while also seamlessly blending into the aesthetics of the building as a whole.

In the hospitality spaces, we applied timber paneling mirroring the centre’s atrium. In doing this, we could carry the warm, open, and friendly aesthetic that visitors experience in the atrium into each hospitality space.

We made sure we had a little more fun on the balcony, bringing in the blue tones, and nice and bright tiles to give the space a little more colour.  It’s important that we deliver hospitality spaces that are not just aesthetically correct but are still functional, so we incorporated stainless steel welded sinks and durable non-slip flooring to ensure these spaces stay looking like they should for years to come.

Combining Beauty & Functionality

In total, we created the spaces within the centre: a theatre bar, a full commercial kitchen/cafe space and a rooftop bar. Each one required a level of functionality for the staff while being an enjoyable and welcoming space for the centre’s guests.

We built the commercial kitchen with the capacity to serve all three spaces, as the centre will often have multiple events running simultaneously. The Theatrette bar allows staff and venue hirers to hold a variety of catered events. The newly built rooftop bar can also accommodate larger functions.

The bar has incredible views of Melbourne's skyline and Port Phillip Bay. Itʼs a space that can be used for private functions, while the public can enjoy the space during rooftop events such as community BBQs, fitness classes, and outdoor cinema screenings.

For practical use, we incorporated stainless steel welded sinks and durable non-slip flooring, ensuring these three spaces stay looking like they should for years to come.

Why Victorian Pride Centre Sought Our Expertise

The Victorian Pride Centre is a not-for-profit organisation. For organisations structured like this, the ability to continually diversify streams of income is extremely important. Having an iconic timeless building means they have the ability to get operators in to hold functions often, attract event planners for larger events, and continue to give back to the community.

Having three functional, beautiful spaces gives the staff total flexibility to do in-house cooking, catering, and the ability to facilitate functions of all types and sizes within their amazing new rooftop space.
